The GE RealMAX Choice 50-gallon tall electric water heater is a simple, no-fuss choice for replacing an electric tank. The tank holds a true 50 gallons and delivers up to 76 gallons of hot water in the first hour, which suits a household of about three to five people.

Two 5,500-watt heating elements bring water back up to temperature quickly, and an inlet tube feeds cold water to the bottom of the tank so more of the hot water on top is ready to use. The thermostat adjusts from 90°F to 150°F and ships set at 120°F.

It hooks up with standard water and electrical connections on a dedicated 240-volt, 30-amp circuit, and the T&P relief valve comes factory installed. A magnesium anode rod helps protect the tank, and it is backed by an 8-year limited tank and parts warranty.
