The GE Smart 50-gallon electric water heater with Flexible Capacity gives you more hot water without a bigger tank. A built-in electronic mixing valve lets it store water hotter and blend in cold water at the outlet, so on the X-High setting it can deliver up to 60% more hot water, about what an 80-gallon tank would give you.

You pick Normal, High or X-High capacity depending on your needs, from the digital display or the SmartHQ app over WiFi. From your phone you can adjust the temperature, set schedules, turn on vacation mode and get alerts, including a reminder when the sensing anode rod is due for replacement. It also works with Amazon Alexa and Google Home.

Two 5,500-watt stainless steel elements handle recovery, and it installs with standard water and electrical connections on a dedicated 240-volt, 30-amp circuit. It is backed by a 10-year limited warranty.
